LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Merrell University may grant a single leave of absence to a student in any 12-month period
provided that the student has made a written request to be granted a leave of absence. The
school cannot charge the student for the leave of absence. Typically, a leave of absence may not
exceed 60 days; however, the school may grant a leave of absence up to six months if:
1. The leave is requested due to medical reasons and the student provides a written
recommendation from a physician.
2. The next term starts more than 60 days after the first day of the leave of absence.
The University will notify the lender that a borrower is on leave of absence.
ABSENTEEISM/TARDINESS
If it is necessary to be absent, the student, spouse, or parent must call before class begins at
8:30a.m.. All phone calls concerning absenteeism must be taken by a staff member. Any
absence, regardless of the reason, delays a student’s graduation date. Both time and classroom
assignments must be made up prior to graduation. Any student, who fails to call and/or show up,
thirty days consecutively, will be withdrawn.
STUDENT HOURS
The University issues each student a plastic time card with a number assigned to each individual
for recording hours of attendance. On their first day of attendance, students are instructed on the
importance of correct use of the time card.
The student is issued a copy of the school rules that includes other relevant information on
requirements of Missouri State Law, understanding contract hours, scheduled school days,
importance of attendance, and breaks and lunchtime.
MAKE-UP HOURS POLICY
Classes at Merrell University are in session Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. for a 30-hour week. An instructor is on duty Tuesdays for students to make up hours
missed on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
Each student is given a quarterly progress report containing all information relative to his or her
current status. It estimates the additional amount of tuition due at completion of the course,
based on current attendance.
Because Saturday clinic scheduling is important to training and preparation for actual salon
service activity, hours missed on Saturday may not be made up. There is a $30 for Saturdays
missed or $4 per hour for anytime under a full day. No exceptions will be made.
