SATISFACTORY PROGRESS STANDARDS - MANICURE COURSE
TESTING AND GRADING
Written tests are given students throughout their classroom study. Subject matter for written
tests will be in cosmetology theory and state law. An average of 80% represents minimum
satisfactory progress. Practical grades are determined from the students PRACTICAL
PROJECT SHEET. Each completed project must be approved and signed by an instructor. The
projects may be performed on a clinic client, another student, or a mannequin. A comprehensive
final examination is given prior to taking the State Board examination. An average grade of 80%
represents a minimum satisfactory progress on practical projects. A Satisfactory Progress
Evaluation will be administered at 200 clock hours.
Students will receive a computer printout progress report, with an instructor evaluating student
progress, quarterly during the fiscal year during the months of January, April, July, and October.
For purposes of determining satisfactory progress each course is broken down into segments.
The following segment chart is for a 400-clock hour course, with a maximum time frame of 19
weeks and 67-_ % minimum attendance at 4-week intervals.
.
WEEKS 4 8 12 16 19.3
SCHEDULED HOURS 120 240 360 480 579
67 _ % ATTENDENCE 81 162 243 324 390
An overall average of 80% is required for graduation. The grading scale is based on a numerical
system as follows:
A = 100% C = 89.87 - 86.85%
B+ = 99.99 - 96.95% D+ = 86.84 - 83.10%
B = 96.94 - 93.91% D = 83.00 - 80.00%
C+ = 93.90 - 89.88% F = 79% and below
Students are required to take any failed examination over one time. A student may take any
failed exam over without any limitation at the discretion of the instructor. A passed examination
may not be retaken. Students who do not achieve 80% cumulative average at the end of each
segment will be placed on probation for a period of one segment. During that period, the student
may receive any financial aid due them. If the cumulative average at the end of the probationary
period is less than 80%, financial aid will normally be terminated until the cumulative average is
raised to the level considered satisfactory. However, students may appeal for one extra
probationary period if they can demonstrate that the causes of the previous poor performance
have been eliminated and that their performance during the probationary period showed
improvement.
