investigation reports will be undertaken to assess the potential for contamination and to
derive baseline groundwater quality across the site.
Consultation will be carried out with SEPA, WDC, Scottish Water and the BGS in order to
obtain all relevant water resource quality and water use related information.
The desk-based study will be supplemented by a site walkover to assess the current
condition of the site and to obtain more information on potential site sources of
contamination. During the site walkover detailed site notes, photographs and sketches
will be taken and used to compliment the desk based information. The data obtained will
include assessment of general site conditions, with particular focus on identification of
waterlogged areas and obvious signs of contamination (e.g. oily sheen).
A full assessment of the potential for the scheme to impact upon the identified water
resources will be made and reported within the ES. The assessment will be based on the
description of the proposed works, phasing and construction methods available at the
time of the assessment. Risk to the water environment (surface waters) will be assessed
with respect to Environmental Standards derived for the protection of transitional waters.
Where required, the ES will outline mitigation to minimise the effects of any adverse
impacts identified and a residual impact assessment will be made.
