died on 31 Dec 1799 <strong>in</strong> Charleston, South Carol<strong>in</strong>a at age 72.<br />

Joseph married Jane Page (d. Bef 1820) <strong>in</strong> 1759 <strong>in</strong> Charleston, South<br />

Carol<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

79 M ii. Capt. John <strong>Bryan</strong> was born <strong>in</strong> 1735 <strong>in</strong> Bertie Prec<strong>in</strong>ct, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a and<br />

died on 12 Mar 1782 <strong>in</strong> Rowan County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a at age 47.<br />

John married Elizabeth Battle (d. 15 Jan 1827) before Jan 1764 <strong>in</strong> Rowan<br />

County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

64. <strong>William</strong> Joyner Jr. (Mary <strong>Bryan</strong> 4 , Henry 3 , <strong>William</strong> (Capt.) 2 , John Sr. (Capt.)<br />

1 ) was born <strong>in</strong> 1681 <strong>in</strong> Norfolk County, Virg<strong>in</strong>ia and died before 1764 <strong>in</strong> Beaufort County, North<br />

Carol<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

Noted events <strong>in</strong> his life were:<br />

• Information: 1681, Norfolk County, Virg<strong>in</strong>ia. By 1712 <strong>William</strong> and Elizabeth had sold<br />

<strong>the</strong> Maryland property and removed to Pamptecough Prec<strong>in</strong>ct North Carol<strong>in</strong>a where he<br />

had obta<strong>in</strong>ed a patent for 5000 acres. The land was not suitable for crops and was<br />

mostly swamp so <strong>William</strong> began grow<strong>in</strong>g hogs. He turned <strong>the</strong>m loose, and <strong>the</strong>y roamed<br />

free. Every few months he had a pig roundup, slaughtered those captured, salted <strong>the</strong><br />

meat and shipped it to England. In 1713 <strong>the</strong> part <strong>of</strong> Pamptecough Prec<strong>in</strong>ct that lay east<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pamlico Sound became Beaufort County. <strong>William</strong>'s land was located south <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

modern small community <strong>of</strong> Bath, and bordered <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>let that turns east <strong>of</strong>f Pamlico<br />

Sound.<br />

<strong>William</strong> married Elizabeth Kemp. Elizabeth was born <strong>in</strong> 1683 <strong>in</strong> Talbot County, Maryland<br />

and was christened <strong>in</strong> 1760 <strong>in</strong> Beaufort County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

• Information: 1683, Talbot County, Maryland. Elizabeth was <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> John Kemp<br />

and Mary Ball <strong>of</strong> Talbot County Maryland. Her parents were associated with Henry<br />

<strong>Bryan</strong>, grandfa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>William</strong> Joyner <strong>who</strong> married Elizabeth, <strong>the</strong>ir daughter.<br />
