• Information: 9 Apr 1730, Frederick County, Virg<strong>in</strong>ia. We could not prove any children<br />

born to John and Sarah. The 1790 Census proves <strong>the</strong>m both liv<strong>in</strong>g Rowan County, but<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1800 <strong>the</strong>re are no <strong>Bryan</strong> families enumerated that Census Record. By that, it is<br />

evident that John died after writ<strong>in</strong>g his will, and Sarah died before it was probated or<br />

moved on with any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> children born to <strong>the</strong>m. John was Sheriff <strong>of</strong> Rowan County<br />

1759 when <strong>the</strong> position was mostly held by artisans, and it is evident John was a<br />

planter. He was serv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Militia 1759 while he was Sheriff, and noted as such on<br />

tax records for 1759. This John <strong>Bryan</strong> did not serve <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Military dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

Revolution.<br />

• Pro<strong>of</strong>: 4 Mar 1780, Rowan County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a. On March 4, 1780, John Ortan was<br />

granted 300 acres on <strong>the</strong> south bank <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> South Yadk<strong>in</strong> River. On February 7, 1786,<br />

John Brandon and John Orton signed as security for a bond <strong>of</strong> 300 pounds for orphan<br />

children <strong>of</strong> John <strong>Bryan</strong>: Sarah <strong>Bryan</strong>, Jean Brian and John Brian. In <strong>the</strong> 1797 will <strong>of</strong><br />

John <strong>Bryan</strong>, Sr., "Jean Ortan" was listed as a daughter.<br />

John married Jane Brandon, daughter <strong>of</strong> Richard Brandon and Ka<strong>the</strong>r<strong>in</strong>e<br />

Rob<strong>in</strong>son, <strong>in</strong> Rowan County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a. Jane was born <strong>in</strong> 1731 <strong>in</strong> Rockcastle County,<br />

Delaware and died <strong>in</strong> 1758 <strong>in</strong> Rowan County, North Carol<strong>in</strong>a at age 27.<br />

Noted events <strong>in</strong> her life were:<br />

• Information: 1731, Rockcastle County, Delaware. Jane was <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Richard<br />

Brandon and his wife, Ka<strong>the</strong>r<strong>in</strong>e Rob<strong>in</strong>son - After Jane died, her husband John<br />

remarried her sister, Sarah.<br />
