Sir James <strong>Grant</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cirant, bv which she consented to miuiity the allowance<br />
<strong>of</strong> four thousand merks to wliich she was entitled in terms <strong>of</strong> her contract<br />
<strong>of</strong> marriao-e, to three thousand merks.<br />
By his first wife Ludovick <strong>Grant</strong> had issue, iive sons and four<br />
daughters. <strong>The</strong> sons were—<br />
1. John, who died young, and unmarried, on 11th April 1GS2.'<br />
2. Alexander, avIio liecame a Brigadier-General in the army, and<br />
succeeded his father. Of him a Memoir follows.<br />
3. James, who succeeded his brother Alexander as Laird <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grant</strong>,<br />
and became Sir James <strong>Grant</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grant</strong>, Baronet. A Memoir <strong>of</strong><br />
him follows.<br />
4. George, described in 1704 as third son <strong>of</strong> Ludovick <strong>Grant</strong>, his eldest<br />
brother John having ])redeceased. He became ]\L\jor George<br />
<strong>Grant</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cidbin. and was for a time Governor <strong>of</strong> Fort-George.<br />
In 1733 he acquired the lands <strong>of</strong> Gull)in and others from his<br />
ne}>hew, Mr. Ludovick Colquhoun <strong>of</strong> Luss, afterwards Sir<br />
Ludovick <strong>Grant</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grant</strong>, to whom, after the death <strong>of</strong> the Major<br />
in December 1755, unmarried, they reverted.<br />
5. Lewis, who became a Colonel in the army. Li a petition to the<br />
King for preferment to the post <strong>of</strong> Lieutenant-Colonel, he states<br />
he had had the honour to serve the Crown twenty-nine years,<br />
particularly in <strong>Scotland</strong> during the rebellion <strong>of</strong> 1715. He states<br />
that during that time he had been twenty-six years Captain in<br />
the army and tiiirteen years ]\Lijor in the regiment <strong>of</strong> foot<br />
