As Member <strong>of</strong> Parliament for the county <strong>of</strong> Inverness, Sir James CJrant<br />

natiu'ally took a deej) interest in the elections. <strong>The</strong>re is no evidence in the<br />

<strong>Grant</strong> corres{)ondence <strong>of</strong> any change or dilHc\dty as to the representation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the countv until aliout 1702, when the inlluence <strong>of</strong> the Lord Advocate.<br />
