2. Alexander, "second son," the exact date <strong>of</strong> whose l)ir(h has not<br />

been ascertained, but who died in infanc}- on i^lst ^larch 1772.<br />

3. James Thomas, born in August 1770, was educated at llichmond,<br />

near London; went to Lidia in 1702. He became a magistrate<br />

at Furruckabad, and in 1801 was appointed Jlegistrar <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Provincial Court at Benares." He died in Lidia, unmarried, on<br />

28t]i July 1S04.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> Honoui-aUe Francis-William, born (Jth j\Lirch 1778. In 1840<br />

he succeeded his eldest brother in the CJrant and Seatield estates.<br />

and also as sLxth Earl <strong>of</strong> Seafield. A short memoir <strong>of</strong> hun<br />

follows.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> Honoural)le Piobert Henry, occasional!}- descriljed as " fourth<br />

son," born 5th August 1783. lie died, unniar)-ied, on 11th<br />

February 1862.<br />

G. Alexander-Hope, born in Augu.st 1784, died 22d August 1793.<br />

7. Dundas-Charles, younge.st son, born 21st October 1787, died 21st<br />

March 1788.<br />

<strong>The</strong> danghto's were :<br />

1. Lady^ Anne Margaret, born 17G4, died unmarried, at Girint Lodge,<br />

Elgin, on 23d November 1827, and her remains were interred in<br />

the fomily vault at Duthil church. Lady Anne figured promi-<br />

nently in the raid <strong>of</strong> the Strathspey Highlanders, who marched<br />
