Colonel <strong>Grant</strong> thus served in the House <strong>of</strong> Conmions for the lono-<br />

period <strong>of</strong> thirty-eight years. During that period the agitation on tlie<br />

subject <strong>of</strong> the Peform Bill took place. Colonel <strong>Grant</strong> opposed the passing<br />

<strong>of</strong> this measure, but when the Bill became law, he frankly accepted it, and<br />

in his addiess to his constituents, in view <strong>of</strong> the dissolution <strong>of</strong> Parliament<br />

which followed, he declared that though he had opposed the Ijill as inex-<br />
