Your Scholarship in Europe 2008-2009<br />

With a residence permit for study, students may work for brief periods. This means that<br />

a student may not work more than 10 hours per week, or may do only seasonal work<br />

(in June, July and August).<br />

<strong>SCHOLARSHIP</strong>S<br />

1. Huygens Scholarships Programme (HSP)<br />

The HSP programme is aimed at talented students who want to come to the Netherlands in<br />

the fi nal phase of their Bachelors studies or during their Masters studies. Study in the Netherlands<br />

can include research and/or practical training. However, HSP scholarships cannot<br />

be awarded to fi nance PhD studies in the Netherlands. Part of the total budget is reserved<br />

for students following programmes in Dutch language and literature. The HSP programme<br />

is administered by Nuffi c, the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in<br />

Higher Education. Scholarships are awarded for a period of no less than 6 months and no<br />

more than 24 months.<br />

A HSP scholarship includes the following components:<br />

• A monthly allowance of €900 (this includes a standard contribution towards healthcare<br />

insurance).<br />

• Reimbursement of tuition fees.<br />

• Visa fees (standard contribution).<br />

• A one-time payment toward international travel costs (standard contribution based<br />

on country of origin).<br />

To be selected for a HSP scholarship, you should meet the following requirements:<br />

• You have been academically admitted to a study programme in the Netherlands.<br />

• Your study programme in the Netherlands should be accredited, i.e., no scholarships<br />

can be awarded to pursue an individually tailored programme.<br />

• Your study in the Netherlands should be in the fi nal phase of your Bachelors studies,<br />

or during your Masters studies. If you are already a graduate, you should have<br />

graduated less than two years ago.<br />

• Your studies in the Netherlands should be primarily aimed at earning a degree at<br />

a Dutch institution.<br />

• You should provide evidence that you are suffi ciently skilled in speaking and writing<br />

the language in which the course is taught (English or Dutch).<br />

• You must be no older than 35 at the start of your study period in the Netherlands (1<br />

September of each year).<br />

APPLICATION PROCEDURE<br />

NB: Before you can apply for a HSP scholarship, you should fi rst obtain a HSP Huygens<br />

application number. You can receive an application number in the following way:<br />
