Your Scholarship in Europe 2008-2009<br />
Council to help international students interested in studying for a UK course or qualifi<br />
cation, can also be useful in the online search for a scholarship. On the http://www.<br />
educationuk.ru (section “Scholarships and fees”) you can fi nd any scholarship appropriate<br />
for your country of origin, level of education, subject, and the institution you are<br />
interested in.<br />
CAREER-BASED COURSES<br />
A very small number of scholarships are available and there is strong competition for<br />
them. Your local Ministry of Education and British Council Offi ce will be able to give you<br />
detailed information about scholarships for career-based courses.<br />
DEGREE COURSES<br />
Scholarships for degree courses are most likely to be available through your own government<br />
(contact your local Ministry of Education). The UK higher educational (HE)<br />
institutions also offer scholarships and bursaries.<br />
POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES AND MBAS<br />
The main scholarships for Masters degrees are the following:<br />
• British Chevening Scholarships. These give access to high-quality UK education<br />
and an opportunity to obtain a post-graduate Masters qualifi cation for talented<br />
graduates and ambitious young professionals wanting to study in the UK. To apply<br />
for a scholarship, contact your local British Council Offi ce or British Embassy.<br />
Preference is given to candidates already established in a career: http://www.<br />
chevening.com.<br />
• Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS). Awards are for postgraduate<br />
research for an initial period of one year. Application forms are available from<br />
UK HE institutions (contact the institutions you want to study at).<br />
For research programmes, scholarships are also available from UK research councils,<br />
which provide funding for sciences and humanities, and under British Council schemes.<br />
To apply and receive more information, contact your local British Council Offi ce.<br />
International organisations, such as the United Nations Educational, Scientifi c and Cultural<br />
Organisation (UNESCO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), also operate<br />
award schemes, mainly for students from developing countries. Scholarships are also<br />
available from many HE institutions.<br />
