since 1859 and is the office of the Berlin Senate<br />
and Mayor. It provides information on urban development,<br />
city partnerships, a collection of presents<br />
from countries all around the world and frequently<br />
hosts art and cultural events.<br />

A Future for our Past – Archaeology and<br />
Town Planning in Berlin<br />
The origin and the history of a city are today are<br />
deciding factor in town planning. Information<br />
panels with original finds, a film and photographs<br />
give an overview of the possibilities of<br />
maintaining and integrating archaeological<br />
sites into the fabric of a city. The exhibition<br />
also informs visitors on the current status of<br />
the archaeological windows project carried out<br />
primarily in the historic city centre.<br />

The seat of the Berlin Senate and Mayor of Berlin<br />
contains the Senate Assembly Hall, the Banquet<br />
Wing with the Coats of Arms Hall, the Columned<br />

(Berlin in Plaster 1790–1850), as well as the main<br />
staircase and colonnade<br />
