since 1859 and is the office of the Berlin Senate
and Mayor. It provides information on urban development,
city partnerships, a collection of presents
from countries all around the world and frequently
hosts art and cultural events.

A Future for our Past – Archaeology and
Town Planning in Berlin
The origin and the history of a city are today are
deciding factor in town planning. Information
panels with original finds, a film and photographs
give an overview of the possibilities of
maintaining and integrating archaeological
sites into the fabric of a city. The exhibition
also informs visitors on the current status of
the archaeological windows project carried out
primarily in the historic city centre.

The seat of the Berlin Senate and Mayor of Berlin
contains the Senate Assembly Hall, the Banquet
Wing with the Coats of Arms Hall, the Columned
Hall with the exhibition »Berlin in Gips 1790–1850«
(Berlin in Plaster 1790–1850), as well as the main
staircase and colonnade
