One of the oldest books printed in Braille script in Germany (1874)<br />
The museum dedicated to the blind has a collection<br />
of over 1000 exhibits including various aids<br />
for the blind, books, photos and paintings.<br />

Louis Braille and Embossed Printing<br />
In 1825 the young Frenchman Louis Braille invented<br />
the six-dot system and opened the door for<br />
blind people to participate in education, careers<br />
and culture. This simple and ingenious writing<br />
system spread around the world, made the leap<br />
into the computer age and, in spite of mo<strong>der</strong>n speech<br />
programmes, is still used in the current day.<br />

Activity<br />
Visitors can write their own Braille and try out<br />
different aids that improve the daily lives of blind<br />
people.<br />
In cooperation with the Blindenhilfswerk Berlin e.V.<br />
(Blind Relief Organisation, based at 15 Rothenburgstraße,<br />
about 100m from the Deutschen Blinden-<br />
Museum), visitors have the opportunity to experience<br />
the »Garden of the Senses« relying on their<br />
senses of taste, smell and touch. Refreshments are<br />
available from the Dunkelbar (Dark Bar).<br />

now has its own museum, offering an exhibition<br />
experience for all senses.<br />

Permanent exhibition<br />
Everything exciting, interesting and mysterious you<br />
need to know about the Currywurst. The virtual<br />
preparation of Currywursts, a spice rack with smell<br />
tests, a sausage sofa to relax on, a ketchup bottle<br />
audio station with Currywurst songs and a look<br />
backstage at a sausage stand are a few things you<br />
can look forward to. The interactive exhibition<br />
invites visitors to join in and try things out – including<br />
the delicious cuisine on offer.<br />

On the trail with the museum quiz – great prizes<br />
await!<br />
The mascot QWoo looks forward to taking photos<br />
with visitors.<br />
