With biographic examples and nearly 600 exhibits,<br />

the »Palace of Tears« illustrates German everyday<br />

life in the context of German division and bor<strong>der</strong>s. It<br />

also shows the most important developments of<br />

the process of reunification.<br />

Parting tears and longing, anger and despair –<br />

in no other place are the feelings about bor<strong>der</strong><br />

crossing so concentrated as they are at the<br />

»Tränenpalast« the Berlin bor<strong>der</strong> intersection for<br />

the departure from East to West at Friedrichstraße<br />

Station. This was where people directly experienced<br />

the effects of the German division on their<br />

personal lives.<br />

The Association of Berlin Artists was founded in<br />

1841 as an independent, self-governing union of<br />

artists from Berlin; at their residence near Potsdamer<br />

Platz the association holds diverse exhibitions<br />

and discussion events.<br />

Eleven Berlin artists experimented in a laboratory<br />

situation for eleven days as a communal,<br />

public project with a specific focus on Istanbul’s<br />

dramatic art – a game with an unknown outcome.<br />

The project will be continued in December 2012<br />

in Istanbul.<br />
