Where would the world be without sugar? The Zucker-<br />

Museum tells the story of sugar – where it comes<br />

from, how it is produced, its cultural, economic and<br />

social significance.<br />

Permanent exhibition<br />

The Cultural History of Sugar<br />

The exhibition tells you everything about sugar<br />

and nutrition in eleven sections: starting with<br />

sugar cane, which came from the colonies in Asia<br />

through Europe and ended up in America in plantations<br />

run by slaves; about beet sugar, which started<br />

out in Berlin; about alcohol, for the production of<br />

which sugar is indispensable.<br />

Carl Achards<br />

Franz Carl Achard, the son of a Huguenot immigrant,<br />

is famous for his pioneering achievements<br />

in the field of beet sugar production in Berlin.<br />

Over and above this he occupied himself with<br />

completely different subjects, such as lightning<br />

conductors, telegraphy and hot air balloons. The<br />

demonstrated trials are inspired by his lectures at<br />

the Royal Prussian Academy of the Sciences.<br />

7×jung is an artistic exhibition of the association<br />

»Gesicht Zeigen!« which deals with experiences of<br />

exclusion, anti-Semitism, and discrimination. Moreover<br />

the exhibition shows what one can do in or<strong>der</strong><br />

to avert these phenomenona.<br />

teenagers in seven thematic rooms. The exhibition<br />

creates personal, emotional and sensual approaches<br />

to coming to terms with the National Socialist era.<br />
