80 years after his death, the artist Heinrich Zille is still
revered for his sharp, tongue-in-cheek illustrations of
Berlin’s society. Berlin’s 80th honorary citizen is celebrated
in this exhibition, which contains original drawings
and etchings as well as photographs of the artist.
Permanent exhibition
Heinrich Zille (1858–1929) gave a face to a phase
of Berlin’s history characterized by the Industrial
Revolution, population growth and poverty. Working
tirelessly to translate his observations into
significant depictions of urban life Heinrich Zille
created a body of work with quality and originality
that has spawned generations of fans. The Zille
Museum contains a comprehensive presentation
on his life and works as well as drawings, lithographs
and photographs.
Music
Schiebe-Schorsch (aka Jörg Kersten) brings popular
tunes from 1920s Berlin – by Paul Linke, Walter
and Willi Kollo – back to life, with assistance from
the barrel organ duo Monika and Bernd Müller.
