Because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules governing all <strong>equestrian</strong> competitions<br />
<strong>of</strong> an Olympic magnitude, only competitors and<br />
certain <strong>of</strong>ficials were admitted to <strong>the</strong> field. Press<br />
photographers, except for those in charge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
recordings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Games, were consequently not allowed<br />
to enter into <strong>the</strong> arena. Only at <strong>the</strong> Inaugural Ceremony<br />
and during <strong>the</strong> Distributions <strong>of</strong> Olympic Medals were<br />
selected photographers admitted to <strong>the</strong> field. Apart<br />
from this, <strong>the</strong>ir press cards allowed <strong>the</strong>m to move freely<br />
elsewhere on <strong>the</strong> Stadium premises.<br />
Film and TV cameras were posted on stands built over <strong>the</strong><br />
twelve entrances to <strong>the</strong> Stadium. A limited number <strong>of</strong> roving<br />
cameramen also were allowed and <strong>the</strong>ir conditions were<br />
<strong>the</strong> same as those ruling for <strong>the</strong> press photographers.<br />

An enormous barn housed <strong>the</strong> quarters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Swedish State Telegraph<br />
Company and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Press Committee on <strong>the</strong> Endurance Test day <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Three-Day Event.<br />
The radio commentators were seated at <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
press stand. Technical personnel and advisers specialized<br />
in broadcasting were at <strong>the</strong>ir assistance whenever needed.<br />
The course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Endurance test <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Three-Day<br />
Event was shown to <strong>the</strong> press on <strong>the</strong> day before <strong>the</strong><br />
opening <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Games. The press representatives were<br />
transported mainly by bus to Fäboda outside Stockholm.<br />
A descriptive book with maps, giving all details <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
course, was distributed on this occasion.<br />
On <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Endurance test, 13th June, joint<br />
transportation was likewise arranged for <strong>the</strong> press to<br />
and from <strong>the</strong> Ulriksdal and Fäboda courses. Telephones<br />
were available for <strong>the</strong> press at <strong>the</strong> controls along <strong>the</strong><br />
course and at <strong>the</strong> finish. The final results <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Endurance<br />
test were given to <strong>the</strong> press without delay at <strong>the</strong> finish<br />
at Fäboda and at <strong>the</strong> Press Committee's city <strong>of</strong>fice in<br />
Stockholm. Special motor orderlies for <strong>the</strong> speedy<br />
transportation <strong>of</strong> photographical press material to<br />
Stockholm and to <strong>the</strong> airport were put in charge by<br />
<strong>the</strong> Swedish Army.<br />
After <strong>the</strong> closing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Games, <strong>the</strong> Press Committee<br />
was kept continuously informed by <strong>the</strong> news enterprises<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> press reportages around <strong>the</strong> world and a book <strong>of</strong><br />
clippings has been compiled for <strong>the</strong> archives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Organizing Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Equestrian Olympic<br />
Games in 1956.
