FANFARER OCH OLYMPISK HYMN FANFARES AND THE OLYMPIC ANTHEM
Omedelbart efter det att Konungen har förklarat Spelen
öppnade, blåses Olympiska fanfarer från Stadiontornen
på samma sätt som vid Olympiska Spelen 1912.
Musiken till fanfaren är »Kungarop» ur den gamla
svenska ryttarmarschen Marcia Carolus Rex. Fanfarblåsarna
ur Kungl. Flottan dirigeras av musikdirektör
Bertil Driving.
För det Olympiska året 1956 hade utlysts en tävlan
om en ny Olympisk Hymn. Bland de många bidragen
valde en jury den hymn till vilken musiken komponerats
av polacken Michal Spisak.
Hymnen sjunges vid invigningen av den Olympiska
sångkören ur Stockholms Sångarförbund. Dirigent är
musikdirektör Hilding Asker.
Körens sång ackompanjeras av musikkårerna ur
Kungl. Västmanlands, Kungl. Svea och Kungl. Södermanlands
flygflottiljer under ledning av musikdirektör
Bertil Wiklander.

When The King has declared open the Games, Olympic
fanfares are sounded from the two Stadium towers in
the same way as at the Olympic Games in 1912.
The fanfare is the music of "Kungarop" from the Marcia
Carolus Rex, a Swedish cavalry march composed in
the 18th century. The trumpeters are from the Royal
Swedish Navy and their conductor is Bertil Driving,
Director of Music.
To celebrate the Olympic Games in 1956, a competition
for a new Olympic Anthem was announced. Amongst
the many compositions the jury chose the music of
the Polish composer Michal Spisak.
At the Inaugural Ceremony the Anthem is sung by
the Olympic choir of the Stockholm Choral Union
conducted by Hilding Asker, Director of Music.
The choir is accompanied by the combined musical
bands of the Royal Västmanland, the Royal Svea, and
the Royal Södermanland Air Force Wings conducted by
Bertil Wiklander, Director of Music.
"Happy the man chosen for fame
The palm of victory
On his brow shows him to the
crowd's acclaim.
He shall taste for his reward the
joys divine
Let the muses set a crown upon his
head
And let an immortal song
Add to the glory of triumph and to
the beauty of youth
