BSRV 2.1 ACCESSIBILITY FOR THE DISABLED<br />

In addition to the requirements <strong>of</strong> ADA, passenger elevators hall call and cab call shall<br />

be flush, not raised.<br />

BSRV 2.2 ELEVATORS<br />

In addition to the following, A/Es are encouraged to consult with the Elevator<br />

Maintenance Supervisor, <strong>Facilities</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Operations Department or Health<br />

Systems Physical Plant, by arrangement with the Project Manager. Cab door heights<br />

over 8’-0” shall be prohibited unless approved by the appropriate elevator maintenance<br />

shop. Recommendations may include proven manufacturers to be included in<br />

specifications.<br />

BSRV 2.2.1 ELEVATOR MACHINE ROOMS AND PITS<br />

Elevator equipment rooms shall be maintained at no higher than 80 degrees during<br />

occupied hours.<br />

Elevator equipment rooms shall not be used for access to ro<strong>of</strong>s or other parts <strong>of</strong> the<br />

building unless elevator equipment is fenced or walled in.<br />

Traction-type elevators shall have machinery located overhead. Written approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

CFO is required for an under-slung installation.<br />

Roped hydraulic elevators shall not be used.<br />

Underground hydraulic piping for elevators shall be schedule 80.<br />

The electric fused disconnect switches or circuit breakers for the elevator and cab lights<br />

shall be adjacent to the door jamb <strong>of</strong> the main access door to the machine room.<br />

Elevator pits for hydraulic elevators shall have sump pits for use <strong>of</strong> a portable sump<br />

pump by <strong>Facilities</strong> <strong>Management</strong> personnel. Drainage from the elevator pit shall not be<br />

connected to any building drainage or sewer system. Sump pits shall be equipped with a<br />

float sensor connected to <strong>Facilities</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Systems Control.<br />

Machine room less type elevator machinery and controls may be used only with the<br />

written approval <strong>of</strong> the Elevator Maintenance Supervisor, <strong>Facilities</strong> <strong>Management</strong><br />

Operations Department. All machinery and equipment shall be designed and installed<br />

to be accessible by maintenance personnel in a manner similar to the access afforded<br />

for maintenance in a typical elevator machine room.<br />
