5) Grounds buildings with other specific uses, doubtful uses, and mixed occupancy<br />

uses shall be classified in accordance with appropriate sections <strong>of</strong> Chapter 3 <strong>of</strong><br />

the VUSBC.<br />

6) Cabins, beach houses, lodges and similar dwelling units with sleeping<br />

accommodations rented to family groups:<br />

a) Residences for rent less for than 30 days with a maximum occupant load <strong>of</strong><br />

16 shall comply with the requirements for Use Group R-3.<br />

b) Residences for rent for less than 30 days with a maximum occupant load <strong>of</strong><br />

greater than 16 shall comply with the requirements for Use Group R-1.<br />

GR 3.2 CAPITAL OUTLAY REQUIREMENTS<br />

The <strong>University</strong> has delegated authority over its capital outlay construction program. See<br />

HECOM for details.<br />

For projects funded by General Funds legislated by the Commonwealth <strong>of</strong> Virginia, the<br />

Project Manager shall advise the A/E, and others, <strong>of</strong> any pertinent requirements<br />

peculiar to specific legislation and/or funding.<br />

All projects, regardless <strong>of</strong> total project cost, are subject to the current edition <strong>of</strong> the<br />

HECOM found at the following website:<br />

HECOM and applicable Department <strong>of</strong> General Services (CO) forms related to contract<br />

documents are available from the following website:<br />

GR 3.3 REVIEWS AND APPROVALS<br />

The following applicable Commonwealth <strong>of</strong> Virginia agency reviews will be coordinated<br />

through the Project Manager. All architectural and engineering consultants shall<br />

provide written comment responses to the Project Manager for distribution to<br />

respective review agencies as listed below:<br />

Fire Safety reviews will be conducted by the <strong>University</strong> Review Unit for all new<br />

construction projects, projects with both additions and renovations, projects with a<br />

change <strong>of</strong> use, and all other renovation projects. The <strong>University</strong> Review Unit shall submit<br />

Capital Project ($2M+) review comments and Working Drawings to the appropriate<br />

Regional State Fire Marshal’s <strong>of</strong>fice for their use in inspection <strong>of</strong> these projects and<br />

record purposes.<br />

By <strong>University</strong> policy all renovation projects are required to provide fire and life safety<br />

improvements up to ten percent (10%) <strong>of</strong> the construction cost or to the extent<br />

required by Code, whichever is greater.<br />
