GR 7 SCHEDULING AND CONSTRUCTION<br />

CONSTRAINTS<br />

GR 7.1 ARCHITECT/ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITY<br />

In coordination with the Project Manager, the A/E shall identify all scheduling and<br />

construction constraints. Particular consideration is warranted for projects in or around<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> healthcare facilities, research laboratories, and classrooms.<br />

The A/E, in coordination with the Project Manager, shall incorporate specific<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> The Joint Commission concerning construction in occupied patient care<br />

facilities. These owner-initiated measures require contractor actions related to Interim<br />

Life Safety Measures and Environment <strong>of</strong> Care, including Infection Control Risk<br />

Assessment, and are available at Internet website link<br />

Information/Directives (FM).<br />

The A/E, in coordination with the Project Manager, shall determine and convey in the<br />

contract documents the limitations, availability or lack there<strong>of</strong> for construction staging,<br />

site access, construction trade vehicle parking. Parking for contractor’s employees on<br />

<strong>University</strong> premises typically is not available, except permit parking arranged with the<br />

<strong>University</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Parking and Transportation at the contractor’s expense.<br />

GR 7.2 NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, AND FUMES<br />

Noise, vibration, dust and volatile fugitive emissions with the potential to adversely<br />

affect the <strong>University</strong> community shall be minimized to the extent feasible. See the<br />

The A/E in coordination with the Project Manager shall identify all such requirements in<br />

the bid documents, including, but not limited to:<br />

1) <strong>Design</strong>ated hours, <strong>of</strong>f-hours or days for the execution <strong>of</strong> work disruptive to<br />

occupied areas.<br />

2) Dust barriers for all renovation projects where tenants occupy portions <strong>of</strong> the<br />

project area or adjoining areas.<br />

3) Exhaust fans where determined applicable by the A/E and/or the <strong>University</strong><br />

Office <strong>of</strong> Environmental Health and Safety. This is a critical application for health<br />

care patient areas.<br />

4) Procedures for stopping work when requested for valid reasons.<br />

5) Dust barriers shall be located to maintain required exit ways. When blocking an<br />

exit way is required, alternative exiting will be provided.<br />
