Acknowledgments<br />

present work could not have been written. SCHEER thanks the Hessische Kultusminister Wiesbaden and<br />

the Hessische Landesmuseum Darmstadt for the possibility to organize an expedition to the Red Sea in<br />

1962 with the purpose of collecting corals. Furthermore, he expresses his thank s to Prof. Dr. Hans HASS,<br />

head of the 2nd Xarifa Expedition 1957/58 for the opportunity to participate in this expedition, which<br />

gave him the chance to collect corals in various pam of the Red Sea. PI LLAI gratefully acknowledges the<br />

award of a fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn- Bad Godesberg, which enabled<br />

him to work on the Red Sea corals together with SCHEER at the Hessische Landesmuseum Darmstadt in<br />
