Vertical<br />

Single-Engagement<br />

Type CVSE<br />

Typical flex-rigids for vertical operation use<br />

standard components. Lube plugs in the end<br />

ring and lube relief holes behind the teeth<br />

provide for rapid filling. A cover plate on top<br />

minimizes collection of abrasives at the end<br />

ring pilot and possible contamination of the<br />

lubricant. Two Type CVSE units are commonly<br />

used in floating shaft arrangements.<br />

Vertical<br />

Double-Engagement<br />

Type CVDE<br />

Can be used in virtually any drive where both<br />

angular and offset misalignment capability is<br />

required. A thrust button or thrust projection<br />

can be added to the lube plate for support of<br />

the upper shaft.<br />

Vertical Types<br />

For connecting shafts in a vertical or tilted<br />

attitude, these designs are lubricant-filled for<br />

reliable performance. Lube plates prevent<br />

loss along the bottom keyways. Type CVSE<br />

single-engagement, and Type CVM floating<br />

shaft arrangements are typical designs using<br />

standard components. Numerous other<br />

flanged and flangeless vertical couplings,<br />

including high-misalignment vertical spindles,<br />

are modified or custom designed for special<br />

requirements.<br />

Vertical Inverted<br />

Single-Engagement<br />

When a flex-half is at the lower end, the flex<br />

hub and end ring are modified to provide more<br />

static lube capacity. A thrust button must be<br />

added if the upper shaft is to be supported.<br />

Vertical Shear Pin<br />

Double-Engagement<br />

This unique coupling combines the features<br />

of FAST's ® typical shear pin design and a<br />

double-engagement flex-half for a vertical<br />

overload release requirement.<br />

Floating Shafts<br />

Type CVM<br />

Most vertical arrangements have two<br />

standard Type CVSE units mounted on the<br />

floating shaft, but several other combinations<br />

of single-engagement designs are possible.<br />

The normal top-to-bottom sequence is flexrigid<br />

with a thrust provision in the lower unit<br />

to support the center section.<br />

Vertical Flangeless<br />

Single-Engagement<br />

Weight and WR 2 are minimized. Flangeless<br />

single-engagement or double-engagement<br />

designs may be preferable for rapidly<br />

reversing drives or cyclic operation. An<br />

O-ring hub seal can be added when direct<br />

impingement of a lube contaminant is likely.<br />
