<strong>Occupational</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> Organizations<br />

GSU <strong>Occupational</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> (OT) Student Club – Membership in this organization<br />

is open to all students who are attending <strong>Governors</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Students<br />

who are enrolled in the <strong>Occupational</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> <strong>Program</strong> are strongly encouraged<br />

to become members and actively participate in the club. For additional<br />

information about the club and the schedule <strong>of</strong> activities, students may contact<br />

Pi Theta Epsilon – Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE) is the national honor society for<br />

occupational therapists sponsored by the American <strong>Occupational</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong><br />

Foundation (AOTF). Established in 1958, at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> New Hampshire<br />

(UNH), Pi Theta Epsilon has evolved into a nationally recognized organization<br />

with purposes <strong>of</strong> which all occupational therapists can be proud and with a<br />

structure that supports these purposes and the resulting programs. The<br />

<strong>Governors</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> chapter is Gamma Kappa and was chartered by PTE<br />

in 2007. For additional information about the honor society and the schedule <strong>of</strong><br />

Illinois <strong>Occupational</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> Association – The IOTA is the state pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

organization for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants.<br />

Membership in this organization is recommended. There are numerous benefits<br />

to joining IOTA. Membership can help you achieve higher levels <strong>of</strong> knowledge<br />

and expertise in occupational therapy practice. Student members have the<br />

opportunity to attend district membership meetings, receive the Communiqué<br />

newsletter and annual membership directory, and attend pr<strong>of</strong>essional continuing<br />

education at discounted rates.<br />
