Master of Occupational Therapy Curriculum
Student Advisement
Upon admission into the Occupational Therapy Program, you will be assigned an
academic advisor. (See policy OT 201)
The role of an academic advisor is to:
Work with the student to develop a Plan of Study;
Function as a support system for the student;
Function as a liaison between the student, the university, and its many
subsystems;
Function as an objective advocate for the student.
Periodically, your advisor will initiate meetings with you to discuss your academic
progress in the program, to check in with you, and to just ask “Hi, how is it going?” You
are also encouraged to initiate a meeting with your advisor at any time for the same
reasons. If a problem or concern arises, please set up an appointment immediately, as
it is your responsibility to keep your advisor apprised of any information relevant to your
academic growth and success.
All advisors have designated office hours each semester to facilitate ongoing
communication with students. In addition, all faculty members have mailboxes and
voice mail. Please feel free to leave a message for your advisors, and they will respond
accordingly. If, for any reason, you are having difficulty reaching your advisor, please
contact program secretary Mary Tracy at 708.534.7290, or mtracy@govst.edu.
