Policy: Each student will complete an independent study on a topic that has been approved by the
faculty. Utilizing principles of research design the student will present, in a professional format a
Research Project.
Purpose:. The self-directed activities will assist the student in the development of logical thinking,
critical analysis, problem solving, and creativity
Procedure:
1.0 Under the supervision of faculty, the student will:
1.1 Evaluate and appraise research literature in the context of historical, social, cultural,
economic, scientific, and political information
1.2 Perform a literature review and integrate pertinent information in the development of
a research project
1.3 Select appropriate research method for analysis of research questions
1.4 Analyze and interpret research literature findings
1.5 Apply research literature review results to the profession of Occupational Therapy
2.0 Write a proposal in a professional manner, demonstrating pre-publication status
3.0 Present the research project in a professional manner demonstrating professional presentation
status
