Implementation: The Planning Department in cooperation with the
Downtown Development office will petition city council within one year to purchase
parts or all of ten lots in this area for the construction of a new parking facility and infill
development. Over the next two years, the city will purchase and subdivide the
appropriate properties. Following council approval the planning department will
subdivide the land into three parcels, two smaller parcels for commercial properties and
one larger parcel to be retained by the city and used for a municipal parking lot.
Following subdivision approval, the Downtown Development office will market the
smaller properties to a developer for the construction of two story commercial buildings.
The new commercial buildings can be constructed within five years. Proceeds from the
sale of the parcels can be given to the public works department for construction of the
parking lot. The public works department will budget funds to construct a new municipal
parking facility within three years.
*Strategy 2.1.6: The Courts lot will be the site of a new Mixed Use parking
deck for the growing parking demands on the city. In keeping with the massing of the
surrounding buildings, the deck will be three stories tall. The entrance and exit will be
located on Commerce Street. Five commercial spaces will be located along West
Washington. Deck. To facilitate traffic flow and create turning lanes, the parking spaces
along Commerce Street will be removed.

Implementation: The City of Suffolk will provide funds for the construction of
the deck. During construction, the City will lease spaces for city employees to park in the
church parking lots. The Laderberg and Commerce lots will be entirely devoted to
customers during construction. This parking deck will be constructed following a
