78 Implementation: The Public Works department will complete this project within one year Strategy 3.6.2: The side parking lot owned by the Main Street United Methodist Church on 126 Bank Street will be upgraded. Implementation: The owner will upgrade this lot within two years. Strategy 3.6.3: The side parking lot on 225 East Washington Street will be upgraded. Goal 4 Downtown Suffolk is the heart of a vibrant retail and service center 79 Objective 4.1 Solidify and expand Downtown Business Association. Strategy 4.1.1: The Downtown Business Association Downtown Suffolk will be expanded to include the Downtown Development office, local business owners, and store managers. The Business Association will continue monthly meetings to discuss issues and concerns as well as opportunities to strengthen business within Downtown Suffolk. Strategy 4.1.2: A new part time position will be crated to assist the Downtown Business Association. This position will assist with creating informative brochures, providing information to association members and the general public, conducting and analyzing surveys, and helping maintain databases. Implementation: The Downtown Development office will petition the City Manager for an extra part time staff of 20 hours a week. This staff position will be approved within one year. Objective 4.2: Market information about Downtown Businesses to residents and customers Strategy 4.2.1: A newsletter will be created by the Business Association and distributed to members. This newsletter will discuss current developments in the Downtown area and highlight assistance programs that owners can utilize as well as strategies for store managers. This newsletter can also be distributed to potential owners or operators. Implementation: This letter will be created by the new part time Downtown Business Association assistant distributed at the monthly meetings. The initial publication will be released within nine months. Strategy 4.2.2: A new web page will be created and linked to the City web site that promotes Downtown businesses. This page will highlight retail establishments and discuss the types of goods available. It will also contain a separate page listing each retail store, their address, phone number, and store hours. Any store that has their own website will be linked to this page, and those who do not have a site will be encouraged to create one.
