PORT MACQUARIE-HASTINGS COUNCIL
This is the first annual Strategic Planning works program report since completion of the UGMS
in December 2010. The report is primarily concerned with priorities for the Strategic Planning
team and does not address the status of projects which are to be coordinated by other Divisions
of Council. Cross divisional actions in the UGMS include:
• Preparation of a Biodiversity Strategy
• Review of Council development contributions
• Parking strategies for key town centres (Greater Port Macquarie CBD, Wauchope &
Laurieton)
• Preparation of Social Plan,
• Preparation of an overarching transport strategy, and
• Review of open space & community facilities planning.
The following priorities, from the adopted UGMS will be undertaken by Council’s Strategic
Planning team until the end of 2011/12. Separate Council reports will be prepared as
necessary for each action, during the 2011/12 financial year.
Strategic Planning Priorities - 2011/12
1. Strategy Preparation & Review
Council has recently completed preparation of the UGMS and will now focus on
implementation actions arising from the UGMS, as described below:

Development Activity
Monitoring of development activity in accordance with the
Monitoring
Department of Planning requirements for the Mid North Coast.
This is important to inform the proposed review of the UGMS in
2014/15.
Koala Strategy
To be prepared following completion of vegetation mapping for
the Port Macquarie-Hastings in 2011/12, in parallel to
preparation of a Biodiversity Strategy.
Sancrox Structure Plan
The preparation of a Structure Plan for the Sancrox area,
including gateway sites at the intersection of the Pacific and
Oxley Highways, to provide a framework for future planning

transport strategy
2. Economic Initiatives
decisions in that area.
This initiative is intended to better integrate transport and land
use planning. The preparation of an overarching framework for
transport planning will commence in 2011/12, with significant
input from the Strategic Planning team.
The UGMS highlights the importance of economic initiatives to the future well being of the
Port Macquarie-Hastings community. These initiatives include planning for the Port
Macquarie Town Centre Entertainment Precinct, Tertiary Education Precinct and Port
Macquarie Hospital Precinct. Strategic planning input will be provided to these initiatives in
2011/12 as a priority.
