INCREASE LEARNING TIME
The culture of assessment needs to reflect that every
student is capable of—and expected to—produce
acceptable work. Sub-standard work will not be
accepted as final until it meets the grade-level and
course standards. This type of grading embraces the
conviction that all students can and will learn. Almost
all students can and will make the effort to learn gradelevel
and course standards if adults in the school create
the right conditions. Students should not have the option
not to turn in work. Participants will explore a range of
strategies (e.g., grading, extra help, redo/revision, and
re-teaching practices) to ensure that more students meet
or exceed grade-level standards in academic courses.
