About the Institute<br />
Athlone Institute of Technology aims to contribute to the<br />
technological, scientific, commercial, economic, industrial,<br />
social and cultural development of the State with particular<br />
reference to the midland region, through the provision of a<br />
balanced education to the highest international standard<br />
founded in accessibility, mobility, collaborative links and<br />
research excellence.<br />
The Institute currently offers an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate<br />
programmes to over 5,000 students. In relation to mature student learners the<br />
Institute believe that Access is not simply about gaining a place at the Institute but<br />
involves the student’s whole progression into and through their chosen course.<br />
INSTITUTES OF TECHNOLOGY<br />
Pre-entry activities/Outreach/Access courses<br />
Foundation Certificate Course - AIT offer a full-time one year foundation course<br />
for adult learners who wish to return to study after a break in their educational<br />
experience and who may not have benefited fully from, or had access to previous<br />
educational opportunities. Participants who successful complete the Foundation<br />
Certificate are guaranteed entry to a Higher Certificate/Ordinary Degree course.<br />
Information Seminars - The Access Officer provides on and/or off-campus, specifically<br />
tailored, information sessions for interested groups with particular emphasis on<br />
funding for third level education and courses offered. These groups include FAS,<br />
VTOS, various Community Groups and a variety of re-training and education centres.<br />
Open Evening - AIT host an open evening annually specifically designed for full-time<br />
and part-time mature students.<br />
