About the Institute<br />
Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is the largest of the Institutes<br />
of Technology (apart from <strong>Dublin</strong> Institute of Technology)<br />
with a total enrolment of over 17,000 registered full-time and<br />
part-time learners. It is a significant element of Irish Higher<br />
Education; indeed its enrolment exceeds that of three of the<br />
seven Universities in the State. CIT is a multi-campus institution<br />
operating at several locations throughout Cork <strong>City</strong> and County.<br />
All the activities of CIT are governed by its mission statement. The mission statement<br />
encapsulates and reflects the Institute’s core values:<br />
To provide student-centred education with a career focus for the benefit of the<br />
personal, intellectual and professional development of the student and for the benefit<br />
of the whole of society<br />

Pre-Entry Supports<br />
Staff from Cork Institute of Technology attend annual Information Sessions held in<br />
the local communities to provide information to mature students on the courses<br />
available to study and the entry mechanisms.<br />
All applicants to the National Certification in Business Studies for Mature Students<br />
receive educational guidance as part of the informal interview process.<br />
Presentations on the New Links Scheme between the VEC and CIT are made to<br />
students on PLC courses in the local FE colleges.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
Mature students must fill out the appropriate section of the CAO Application Form,<br />
and should apply by 1st February of the year of entry.<br />
Such applicants may not be required to have the minimum entry requirement.<br />
Relevant work experience, skills gained through experiential learning and other<br />
qualifications will be considered in the assessment of these applications.<br />
The Educational Opportunities Department has the general aim of increasing<br />
the participation in higher education by people such as mature students and<br />
unemployed adults. Courses include:<br />
