About the Course<br />
The Foundation Certificate is a one year course that prepares<br />
adults with no prior experience of higher education to enter<br />
third level education.<br />
It provides the student with exposure to a number of different academic<br />
disciplines in an environment that meets the needs of the adult learner.<br />
It provides a guaranteed entry route to the Athlone Institute of Technology.<br />
It enable students to made informed choices about further study in their elective<br />
areas.<br />
ACCESS/FOUNDATION COURSES<br />
Subjects, Assessment and Award<br />
Subjects: Maths, Sciences, Engineering, Business and Finance, Communications,<br />
Social Care, Information Technology<br />
Assessment: Continual Assessment is a key element of the course, however final<br />
examinations are also essential.<br />
Award: On successful completion of the Course, students are guaranteed entry to a<br />
course of their choice at Athlone Institute of Technology.<br />
Pre-entry Supports<br />
Access Officer available from pre-entry stage onwards<br />
Open Evening for all adult learners takes place annually to help and advise on all<br />
aspects of returning to study i.e. Foundation Cert, admissions procedures, part-time<br />
programmes, financial supports available etc.<br />
