About the Institute<br />
Waterford Institute of Technology offers a range of academic<br />
programmes covering Humanities, Health and Nursing, Science<br />
and Informatics, Engineering and Architecture, Business and<br />
Education.<br />
The Institute comprises of five sites located throughout the city.<br />
We recognise that our student population is drawn from diverse<br />
cohorts of society, with mature students comprising a significant proportion of our<br />
student intake.<br />

Pre-entry Supports<br />
Potential students to Waterford Institute of Technology can avail of a variety of preentry<br />
and post-entry supports. These supports are outlined briefly below and further<br />
information can be obtained by contacting WIT directly.<br />
REGSA – www.regsa.ie<br />
The Regional Education Guidance service for adults provides information and<br />
educational/career guidance and one-to-one consultations to adults who are making<br />
choices about returning to education or retraining or up-skilling for a career change.<br />
Mature Student Summer School: This is a week-long programme run in June for<br />
adults who are considering returning to education<br />
Adult and Continuing Education Department: This department co-ordinates a<br />
Foundation studies course. This is a one-year course for adult learners who wish to<br />
return to study after a significant period of time outside the educational system. For<br />
further information see appendix 5.<br />
Continuing professional development programmes and hobby courses are also<br />
offered on a part-time basis typically, Monday to Friday from 7pm to 10pm. These<br />
courses are subject to fees, however, there are a small number of places available at<br />
reduced fees on all courses for mature students experiencing financial difficulties.<br />
