Entry Requirements<br />

Foundation Certificate - Persons over 21 years on the 1st January of the year of entry,<br />

with or without a Leaving Certificate are eligible to apply. Selection may involve an<br />

interview.<br />

Full-time Study - Applicants must be 23 years or over on 1st January in the year of<br />

entry to the undergraduate course. Such applicants may not be required to have<br />

the minimum entry requirements. Applicants should apply through the CAO system,<br />

and may be required to attend for interview at the institute as part of the selection<br />

process.<br />

FETAC - The Institute welcomes applications from mature students who have<br />

successfully completed FETAC Level 2 courses.<br />

Part-time Study - Students applying to attend the Institute on a part-time basis<br />

should contact the Adult Education Office, on 090 642 4588 for application forms,<br />

which they should return directly to the Institute.<br />

Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects Scheme (ACCS) - This allows<br />

students to follow any subject on an institute course and be awarded a certificate<br />

and credits on successful completion of the subject. These credits can count toward<br />

the award of Higher Certificate/Ordinary degree.<br />

Mainstreaming – Under the umbrella of Student<br />

Services many of the additional supports for<br />

mature students are mainstreamed and include<br />

counseling, health service, chaplaincy, sports<br />

office, students union, library services, etc.<br />

registered as first year undergraduates was 102.<br />
