Qualified applicants may also apply through the CAO (deadline 1st February in year<br />

of entry) but selection of CAO applicants is based on Leaving Certificate points, there<br />

is no interview for CAO applicants.<br />

Academic Entry Requirements<br />

B.A. Direct Applicants<br />

Applicants who make a direct application to the College for entry into the BA on mature<br />

grounds do not compete with school leavers in terms of prior academic achievement and<br />

points but may have completed a recent course of study, such as one of the university<br />

foundation or VTOS courses. Others have no formal qualifications. Work and life experience is<br />

taken into consideration, but recent evidence of study is advantageous.<br />

B.A. CAO Applicants<br />

Leaving Certificate (or approved equivalent) with:<br />

Grade C3 in two Higher Level subjects and<br />

Grade D3 in four Ordinary or Higher Level subjects (which must include Mathematics<br />

and either Irish or English). Ordinary Alternative or Foundation Mathematics is accepted for<br />

matriculation purposes but the College does not award points for this level in Mathematics.<br />

B.Ed. (primary) CAO and Direct Applicants<br />

Leaving Certificate or approved equivalent with a minimum of:<br />

Grade C3 in 3 Higher Level subjects, and a Grade D3 in three other subjects at either Higher<br />

or Ordinary Level. Essential subjects include:<br />

Grade C3 in Honours Irish.<br />

Grade C3 in Ordinary Level or Grade D3 in Honours<br />

Level English.<br />

Grade D3 in Ordinary or Higher Level Mathematics.<br />

Mature applicants may combine Leaving Certificates<br />

to satisfy these requirements.<br />

In 2005/06 there were 58 mature students<br />

registered as first year full-time undergraduate<br />

students. In total, 202 mature undergraduate students were registered.<br />
