TWELVE 11-WEEK QUARTERS, OR 132 WEEKS<br />

<strong>The</strong> 12-quarter* Media <strong>Art</strong>s & Animation bachelor’s<br />

degree program is designed to provide graduates<br />

with art, design, technical, business, and life skills<br />

needed to pursue an entry-level career in the<br />

animation and related media arts fields. <strong>The</strong> goal is<br />

accomplished through a focused curriculum based<br />

on industry validated outcomes.<br />

In recent years, the animation industry has<br />

experienced dynamic change. <strong>The</strong> art of<br />

animation has now moved into the technology age.<br />

But computer animation skills are only part of what<br />

the graduate needs. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Art</strong> Institute of Phoenix<br />

wants to create competitive graduates. Students<br />

in the Media <strong>Art</strong>s & Animation program are trained<br />

for entry-level positions in the animation industry<br />

through curricula that emphasize a range of job<br />

skills in traditional 2D and 3D animation. With a<br />

solid foundation in traditional art related skills and<br />

technology, graduates of the Media <strong>Art</strong>s & Animation<br />

program are prepared for an exciting entry-level<br />

career in the animation and media arts industry.<br />

Career opportunities for graduates of the Media <strong>Art</strong>s<br />

& Animation program represent a mixture of 2D, 3D,<br />

and production. Graduates are prepared to pursue<br />

entry-level jobs as 2D or 3D animators, 3D modelers,<br />

texture map/lighting artists, 2D artists (characters,<br />

environments, storyboards), or as motion graphics<br />

artists. Graduates may pursue entry-level jobs in<br />

the entertainment, broadcast television, game,<br />

architecture, corporate communication, legal and<br />

medical animation industries.<br />

Objectives - upon completion of this program,<br />

graduates will be able to:<br />

• demonstrate skill in 3D modeling that includes<br />

a variety of modeling techniques, lighting, and<br />

texture mapping skills.<br />

• demonstrate proficiency in animation including<br />

effective application of the 12 Principles of<br />

Animation, timing and weight, rigging, and<br />

camerawork.<br />

• produce an <strong>Art</strong> Process Book that demonstrates the<br />

application of learned concepts from traditional<br />

arts courses in the areas of life drawing, character<br />

development, concept art and storyboarding<br />

while showing process (concept to completion) on<br />

various projects.<br />

• demonstrate commitment to professionalism<br />

through effective self-marketing that includes the<br />

creation, assembly and presentation of portfolio<br />

elements that indicate a clear career focus.<br />
