ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE—90 CREDITS<br />
SIX 11-WEEK QUARTERS OR 66 WEEKS<br />
<strong>The</strong> 6-quarter* associate’s degree program offers<br />
students an opportunity to work with talented,<br />
experienced instructors to learn the fundamentals of<br />
Graphic Design and production. One of today’s primary<br />
methods of communication, Graphic Design has also<br />
become an exciting business that continues to grow<br />
and present new opportunities to creative people.<br />
Students study two- and three-dimensional design,<br />
marketing, and media design. <strong>The</strong>y explore color<br />
theory, visual composition, typography, information<br />
graphics, electronic and print production processes,<br />
and business as it relates to the graphic arts. Students<br />
can also learn to use computer illustration, image<br />
manipulation, web layout and programming, and<br />
page layout programs to master design skills.<br />
Graphic Design students also have an opportunity<br />
to learn the skills to write effective résumés and<br />
conduct successful job interviews. <strong>The</strong>y graduate<br />
with a professional portfolio to show potential<br />
employers and are prepared to join the industry in<br />
entry-level positions in fields such as advertising,<br />
publishing, television and motion pictures,<br />
architecture, and education.<br />
Objectives - upon completion of this program<br />
graduates will have:<br />
• Technical Expertise: vector graphics, image<br />
manipulation, page layout, and website layout and<br />
design (if viewable at the portfolio review).<br />
• Design/Graphics: continuity, conceptual,<br />
demographic considerations, style, composition,<br />
typography, craftsmanship.<br />
• Design Process, Color Use, and Production:<br />
research, thumbnail sketches, roughs, design<br />
execution, color use, craftsmanship.<br />
• Presentation/Career: Presentation, portfolio, career<br />
focus, communication skills.<br />
