SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT<br />

3 Credits - Prerequisite: None<br />
In this course students learn to develop scripts and plugins<br />
used for game and animation. Such scripts and plugins<br />
are intended to enhance the modeling, animation,<br />
and other game features in 3D software packages.<br />
Students also learn to use standard graphics libraries.<br />
SOUND DESIGN DM111<br />
3 Credits - Prerequisite: VP115 Introduction to Audio<br />
This course focuses on voice, music and sound<br />
effects, and the impact they have on the visual<br />
image. It also explores the various methods and<br />
techniques for digital sound composition and<br />
design. Students will focus on using digital sound<br />
systems and manipulating sound elements for<br />
intended effects in media content.<br />
SPANISH I HUM201<br />
4 credits (General Education) - Prerequisite: None<br />
Introduces students to the Spanish language through<br />
written materials and oral exercises. Students<br />
explore the fundamentals of grammar and begin to<br />
develop the listening and speaking skills necessary<br />
for conversation. Students also are introduced to the<br />
interrelationship of language and culture.<br />

HUM201 Spanish I<br />
This class will build on the knowledge gained from<br />
Spanish I. <strong>The</strong>re will be increased challenges to<br />
the student to use Spanish spontaneously and<br />
accurately. <strong>The</strong>re will be additional activities, such<br />
as realistic survival situations, group work to bring<br />
Spanish into daily use in business and in the home.<br />
SPECIAL TOPICS FOR EFFECTS FX441<br />
3 Credits - Prerequisite: 11th quarter of study or higher<br />
Topics are based upon important trends and<br />
developments in visual special effects (VFX). Lectures,<br />
demonstrations, or research reports pertaining to<br />
areas of interest in VFX are presented by resident<br />
faculty, expert visitors, and working professionals.<br />
Group projects may also be assigned. Study and<br />
discussion of computer hardware, operating<br />
systems, networking, programming languages,<br />
inter-active digital media, streaming media, HDTV,<br />
entrepreneurship, marketing, workgroup organization,<br />
and film industry are but a few possible topics that may<br />
be covered. This course allows the student to select<br />
special topics in VFX and produce, under the guidance<br />
of an instructor, work related to the industry. <strong>The</strong><br />
student will also be exposed to the various applications<br />
of VFX and apply VFX skills to chosen topics.<br />

Rapidly evolving technologies dictate continual<br />
research of the past and present in order to predict<br />
future trends. In this course, students will explore<br />
futuristic technology scenarios as well as experiment<br />
with recent innovations in scripting products and<br />
techniques for interactive media applications.<br />

Statistics is a branch of applied mathematics that<br />
provides the framework for looking at uncertainty<br />
and risk in logical and systematic ways. This course<br />
introduces students to the methods in the field<br />
of applied statistics, presenting both descriptive<br />
and inferential methods, and concentrating on the<br />
applications of statistical techniques to the analysis<br />
of data. Topics include basic data characteristics,<br />
such as mean, median, mode, range, and standard<br />
deviation, probabilities, confidence intervals, and<br />
both correlation and linear regression.<br />

This course focuses on planning for complex<br />
layered composites. Students will apply industrystandard<br />
storyboarding and scripting techniques<br />
to visual effects. Contents to be covered include<br />
purposes and formats of storyboards, basic<br />
terminology and concepts used in storyboarding,<br />
and the application of storyboarding techniques<br />
to the creation of storyboards with or without a<br />

Students will explore the art of relating stories in the<br />
oral tradition. Folklore, fables, fairytales, and legend<br />
have, for generations, ensured the permanence of<br />
history, culture, theories of origin, admonition, and<br />
cultural beliefs. In this course, students will learn the<br />
functions, traditions, and methods of passing along<br />
history for generations to come.<br />

3 Credits - Prerequisite: ID265 Fundamentals of<br />
Working Drawings, ID211 Textiles and Finishes.<br />
Students will learn about environmental/ecological issues,<br />
as well as principles and criteria for sustainable design<br />
that are appropriate to today’s design. <strong>The</strong> programming,<br />
schematic and design phases for sustainable design will<br />
be covered in the design process, and current rating<br />
systems, such as LEED commercial and/or residential<br />
interior credits and project needs will be analyzed. <strong>The</strong><br />
course will be conducted in a combination of lecture and<br />
design studio format.<br />

This course introduces the student to the<br />
methodologies and tools used to control costs,<br />
purchase supplies, and help the student value<br />
the purchasing, planning, and control process<br />
in the food and beverage industry. Primary<br />
focus is on supplier selection, planning, and<br />
controlling costs, with an emphasis placed on the<br />
study of sustainable products and approaches.<br />
Topics include planning and controlling costs<br />
using budgeting techniques, standard costing,<br />
standardized recipes, performance measurements,<br />
food, beverage, and labor cost controls.<br />

This course will build upon the Team Production<br />
Planning course. Students will either select or accept<br />
a specific role on the production team and, acting in<br />
a timely and professional capacity, ensure that the<br />
game project is completed. Students will create and<br />
refine the game production document, level designs,<br />
and basic 2D art and 3D models to be combined into<br />
a playable Game Demo in Production Team II.<br />

This is a team production course. Under the guidance<br />
of an instructor, students will continue to work in<br />

quantitative and qualitative research, scheduling<br />
of the project, methods of presentation, and<br />

This course explores natural and synthetic fibers,<br />
their production uses, and characteristics. Content<br />
includes discussion of yarns, fabrics, design methods,<br />
aesthetic applications, and ordering specifications.<br />

3 Credits - Prerequisite: ID111 Drafting<br />
This course explores the nature of man-made and<br />
natural materials used in interior finishes. Content<br />
includes discussion of yarn, fabrics, finishes, design<br />
methods, and proper application of these materials<br />
from technical as well as aesthetic approaches.<br />
