Uses of The Competencies<br />

In Idaho, the State certification board <strong>and</strong> the Idaho Educators in Addiction Studies collaborated<br />

to establish a new entry-level counselor certification for the State. Educational requirements for<br />

certification were based on The Competencies. To facilitate the process, college faculty members<br />

were trained in competency-based teaching methods to enhance student proficiency.<br />

Promote client knowledge, skills, <strong>and</strong> attitudes that contribute to a positive<br />

change in substance use behaviors.<br />
