Uses of The Competencies
In July 1999 a new mandatory Chemical Dependency Professional credentialing process was
adopted in Washington State. Proficiency in specific addiction counseling competencies derived
from The Competencies came to be required. Subsequently, college and university curricula within
the State were required to be consistent with The Competencies.
