Power Engineering Class I+II+III (T1+T2+T3) Combined Arresters PowerPro BCD, TN-C, TN-S and TT Systems • All-in-one modular protection unit, ready for connection • Rare-gas-filled spark gap, hermetically sealed • Discharge capacity up to 100 kA (10/350 µs) • High quenching of follow-on short-circuit currents • High insulation resistance • V-wiring with multi-functional terminals • Maximum operational availability • Protection level from < 0.75 kV up to 1.0 kV • High TOV resistance • No blow-out vents, thus, not requiring any safety clearance to other installations • No leakage currents, thus, allowing installation upstream of power meters • Optional remote signalling contact (FM) requiring no additional space • Operates independently of atmospheric air pressure and ambient humidity Multi-pole combined modular arresters for the protection of low-voltage consumers’ installations in business and residential areas against surges caused by lightning or switching actions in the network. The installation place of the PowerPro BCD is the main distribution board upstream or downstream of the power meter. According to the lightning protection zones concept in IEC DIN EN 62305 part 1-4 (VDE 0185-305-1-4), it can universally be installed at the transition 0 A to 2. Due to their good insulation against earth of ≥ 10 GΩ and the fact that no leakage-current affected varistors (MOV) are connected in parallel, they even can be placed upstream of the meter according to the specifications of the German VDN (TAB 2007). Downstream equipment should additionally be protected by Leutron class III or class II+III SPDs. They are coordinated with the PowerPro BCD in a way that they can be installed without the need of a minimum distance. The rare-gas-filled combined modular arresters of the series PowerPro BCD reduce follow-on short-circuit currents to such an extend that a 35 A fuse would not operate and upstream positioned surge-current protection devices are not triggered. These SPDs of the series PowerPro BCD feature a high thermal resistance and a discharge capability for lightning impulse currents of 25 kA (10/350 µs) per pole. Therefore, they can confidentially be applied at all protection levels according to DIN EN 62305 (VDE 0185-305). The modular designed, multi-pole complete units are available for TN, TN-C, TN-S, TN-C-S and TT systems according to IEC (EN, VDE, OEVE, etc.) standards. They are shipped readyto-connect (on rail). They are also available for IT networks in country-specific versions with or without neutral conductor (N). Combined modular arresters of the series BCD offer a higher insulation level and lower investment and installation costs, due to their low voltage protection level of less than 1 kV at full discharge current. They are able to divert high lightning impulse currents and operate also at small, transient surges under different ambient conditions, reliably and without any problems. Even at a load of 3 to 5 kA the residual voltage remains below 650 V! Due to the application of the gas discharge technology the PowerPro BCD SPDs are resistant against temporary and long lasting overvoltages (TOV) up to 400 V (50 Hz). Leutron also offers a special version with a higher operating voltage. The units can universally be installed at all export countries with nominal system voltages of 200 to 260 V. The TT system version discharges the impulse current between L and N. Between N and PE a Leutron summation current spark gap SumPro with 100 kA (10/350µs) will be applied which corresponds to the highest lightning protection class I according to VDE 0185-305 (IEC DIN EN 62305). With back-up fuses or circuit-breakers of more than 250 A, a selective back-up fuse (fusible cutout) of max. 250 A has to be installed to avoid an overload of the IsoPro caused by a high short-circuit current. The pre-assembled, two-pole busbars at the terminals allow a serial V-wiring of the SPD to a back-up fuse up to 125 A.
