Multi-pole surge arresters for the protection of low-voltage<br />

consumers’ installations in industry, business and residential<br />

areas against transient surges caused by lightning (LEMP) or<br />

switching actions in the network (SEMP).<br />

The arresters can be installed at the transition 0 B to 1 and<br />

higher, according to the lightning protection zones concept.<br />

The multi-pole complete units in compact housings are available<br />

for TN-C, TN-S, TN-C-S and TT systems as well as for threephase<br />

systems according to IEC (EN, VDE, OEVE, etc.) standards.<br />

They are shipped ready-to-connect.<br />

With their leakage current-free design, TOV security and LED<br />

monitoring as well as their optional hermetically-sealed remote<br />

alarm contacts the arresters set new standards in terms<br />

of monitoring comfort, security, reliability and life expectancy.<br />

The arresters can be combined with upstream installed<br />

arresters of the series PowerPro and IsoPro.<br />

The SPD modules have thermal disconnection devices per<br />

pole, which respond if, due to an overload, the partial lightning<br />

current through the metal oxide varistor exceeds a certain<br />

value. In this case the green LED extinguishes and the optional<br />

thermal sensor with remote contact (normally closed)<br />

opens. In order to maintain the surge voltage protection the<br />

SPD has to be replaced immediately.<br />

The thermally triggered, potential-free remote alarm contact<br />

is a hermetically sealed switch to eliminate environmental<br />

influences and to guarantee the highest possible security.<br />

For security reasons it is designed as a normally closed contact<br />

(NC).<br />

The MOV and the expulsion-type spark gap are connected<br />

in series to avoid heating and, thus, ageing in the state of<br />

rest. Therefore, a considerable increase in life expectancy is<br />

reached. There is no need for expensive thermo sensors to<br />

monitor the surface temperature. Thus, the protection modules<br />

do not need to be pluggable<br />

The SPD is equipped with a reliable LED function display.<br />

The LED has a dual function as indicator for the varistor function<br />

and as voltage monitor. Therefore, a proper connection<br />

and function of the SPD is indicated during installation. Additionally,<br />

an extinguished LED during operation indicates a<br />

malfunction.<br />

Since this version is leakage current-free, the earthing system<br />

is protected against dangerous ac-caused corrosion and the<br />

earth leakage circuit-breaker will not be activated by leakage<br />

currents.<br />

Versions with additional gas-discharge spark gaps do not<br />

interfere with the function of permanently installed insulation<br />

monitoring devices and earth leakage circuit-breakers.<br />

The EP C units are also available with a rated voltage of 350<br />

V for a higher TOV resistance.<br />

In 230 V ac networks the optional potential-free remote contact<br />

(FM) can be updated by an additional acoustic/optical<br />

signalling device UAS 230-Tr with test key (Item no. 35 10 30),<br />

even at a later point in time.<br />
