Class I+II (T1+T2) Combined Arresters
IsoPro Kompakt BC, TN-C, TN-S and TT Systems
• High insulation resistance
• Protection level = 2 kV
• Optical function control display by LED
• Discharge capacity up to 20 kA (10/350µs)
• On the basis of hermetically sealed rare-gas-filled
spark gaps
• No blow-out vents, thus, not requiring any safety
clearance to other installations
• Optional remote signalling contact (FM) requiring no
additional space
• Complete optical monitoring of conductor and
arrester by LED
Multi-pole combined modular arresters for the protection
of low-voltage consumers’ installations in business and residential
areas against surges caused by lightning or switching
actions in the network.
The arresters can be installed at the transition 0 A to 2 according
to the lightning protection zones concept.
The series IsoPro Kompakt (IPK) is based on a well-proved
technology. Per pole two selectively responding protection
stages with LED monitoring are placed in a combined DIN
housing that is only 88 mm wide. The leakage current-free
protective circuit consists of a varistor (MOV) and a gas-filled
surge arrester (GDT) connected in series. In addition, a raregas-filled,
hermetically sealed high-performance isolating
spark gap from industrial ceramics – resistant against pressure
and high temperatures – is connected in parallel.
The SPDs are leakage-current free and protect the earthing
system against dangerous ac-caused corrosion.
Due to their good insulation against earth of 10 GΩ and the
fact that no leakage-current affected varistors (MOV) are
connected in parallel, they even can be placed upstream
of the meter according to the specifications of the German
VDN (TAB 2007).
The multi-pole complete units in compact housings are available
for TN-C, TN-S, TN-C-S and TT systems as well as for threephase
systems according to IEC (EN, VDE, OEVE, etc.) standards.
They are shipped ready-to-connect.
The proper function of every single protection stage of the
IsoPro Kompakt (IPK) is indicated by two green LEDs at the
housing. If one LED fails the SPD remains partly functional. If
the second LED fails the protection is not working any longer
and the SPD has to be replaced.
Optionally, the IsoPro Kompakt can be delivered with integrated,
non-resetable thermal sensors (FM). At an overload
of the SPD the sensors open a hermetically-sealed, potentialfree
remote contact permanently. This remote state display in
addition to the local optical LED indicator makes a periodical
maintenance unneccessary.
The sensors are already triggered before a possible damage
of the SPD. The SPD then has to be replaced for security
reasons.
This way, with a minimum of additional acquisition costs the
maintenance costs can be reduced considerably.
The remote contacts have to be included in the order of the
SPD. Retrofitting is not possible.
The remote signalling contact is connected via a twisted-pair
cable to an integrated plug-type terminal block of the SPD.
This SPD has a redundant function. In case of a (theoretically
possible) malfunction of the first protection stage the robust
and overload-resistant main spark gap remains in operation
and guarantees the coarse protection of the network.
High-energy lightning impulse currents cause the main spark
gap to fire, thus, protecting the first protection stage (MOV
and GDT) against thermal overload.
Due to the application of the gas discharge technology in
both protection stages, the IsoPro SPDs are resistant against
temporary and long lasting overvoltages (TOV) up to 500 V
(50 Hz).
