The SPD modules have thermal disconnection devices per
pole, which respond if, due to an overload, the partial lightning
current through the metal oxide varistor exceeds a certain
value. In this case the green LED extinguishes and the optional
thermal sensor with remote contact (normally closed)
opens. In order to maintain the surge voltage protection the
SPD has immediately to be replaced.
The thermally triggered, potential-free remote alarm contact
is a hermetically sealed switch to eliminate environmental
influences and to guarantee the highest possible security.
For security reasons it is designed as a normally closed contact
(NC).
The MOV and the expulsion-type spark gap are connected
in series to avoid heating and, thus, ageing in the state of
rest. Therefore, a considerable increase in life expectancy is
reached. Thus, the protection modules do not need to be
pluggable.
The SPD is equipped with a reliable LED function display in
place of a mechanical display.
The LED has a dual function as indicator for the varistor function
and as voltage monitor. Therefore, a proper connection
and function of the SPD is indicated during installation. Additionally,
an extinguished LED during operation indicates a
malfunction.
The optional remote alarm contacts are placed in the housing.
For the electrical connection twisted cables are attached
to screw-type terminals at a terminal fixing of the SPD.
Since this SPD version is leakage current-free, the earthing
system is protected against dangerous ac-caused corrosion
and the earth leakage circuit-breaker will not be activated
by leakage currents.
Versions with additional gas-discharge spark gaps do not
interfere with the function of permanently installed insulation
monitoring devices and earth leakage circuit-breakers.
This compact SPD with a modular width of only 1 MW is designed
for single-phase TN systems with backup fuses up to
125 A. A single protection unit can protect two conductors
(against PE or N) or one conductor and the neutral conductor
(against PE).
The arrester has only half the width of standard protective
devices.
The EnerPro 280Tr is equipped with a thermal disconnection
device, which is triggered if due to an overload (high leakage
currents) the varistor temperature rises too much.
In this case the green function control indication extinguishes
and the optional remote contact opens. In order to maintain
the surge voltage protection the SPD has immediately
to be replaced.
In 230 V ac networks the optional potential-free remote contact
(FM) can be updated by an additional acoustic/optical
signalling device UAS 230-Tr with test key (Item no. 35 10 30),
even at a later point in time.
