Class I (T1) Lightning Current Arresters
PowerPro B TN-C, TN-S, TN, TT and IT Systems
• All-in-one modular protection unit, ready for connection
• Rare-gas-filled spark gap, hermetically sealed
• Discharge capacity up to 100 kA (10/350µs)
• High quenching of follow-on short-circuit currents
• High insulation resistance
• Protection level up to 4 kV
• High TOV resistance
• Maximum operational availability
• V-wiring with multi-functional terminals
• No blow-out vents, thus, not requiring any safety
clearance to other installations
• No leakage currents, thus, allowing installation
upstream of power meters
• Optional remote signalling contact (FM) requiring no
additional space
• Operates independently of atmospheric air pressure
and ambient humidity
Multi-pole lightning current arrester for the protection of lowvoltage
consumers’ installations in business and residential
areas against surges caused by lightning or switching actions
in the network.
The arresters can be installed at the transition 0 A to 1 according
to the lightning protection zones concept.
The series PowerPro B (PP B) has the following performance
features: 50 kA (10/350 µs) per pole and 100 kA (10/350 µs) between
N and PE in TT systems respectively. It is classified as
class I (T1) SPD (former category B) with a voltage protection
level of 4 kV between L and PE (or N in TT systems) depending
on the impulse current load.
The SPDs of the series PowerPro B feature a high thermal resistance
and an outstanding discharge capability for lightning
impulse currents of 50 kA (10/350 µs) per pole. Therefore,
they can be applied according to DIN EN 62305 (VDE
0185-305).
The rare-gas-filled combined modular arresters of the series
PowerPro B significantly reduce possible follow-on shortcircuit
currents due to an extremely quick quenching after
equipotential bonding. Therefore, upstream positioned
surge-current protection devices are not triggered.
The SPDs are leakage-current free and protect the earthing
system against dangerous ac-caused corrosion.
Due to their good insulation against earth of 10 GΩ and the
fact that no leakage-current affected varistors (MOV) are
connected in parallel, they even can be placed upstream
of the meter according to the specifications of the German
VDN (TAB 2007).
The modular designed, multi-pole complete units are available
for TN, TN-C, TN-S, TN-C-S, and TT systems according to
IEC (EN, VDE, OEVE, etc.) standards. They are shipped readyto-connect
(on rail). They are also available for IT networks
in country-specific versions with or without neutral conductor
(N).
Leutron also offers a special version with a higher operating
voltage. The units can universally be installed at all export
countries with nominal system voltages of 200 to 260 V.
The TT system version discharges the impulse current between
L and N. Between N and PE a Leutron summation current
spark gap SumPro with 100 kA (10/350µs) will be applied
which corresponds to the highest lightning protection class
I according to VDE 0185-305 (IEC DIN EN 62305).
With back-up fuses or circuit-breakers of more than 250 A, a
selective back-up fuse (fusible cutout) of max. 250 A has to
be installed to avoid an overload of the IsoPro caused by a
high short-circuit current.
The pre-assembled, two-pole busbars at the terminals allow
a serial V-wiring of the SPD to a back-up fuse up to 125 A.
In the case of single-pole units the individual SPD modules
can optionally be delivered with integrated, non-resetable
thermal sensors (/FM) or (/Pk).
The remote signalling contact (FM or Pk) is connected via a
twisted-pair cable to an integrated plug-type terminal block
of the SPD.
The latching hooks per pole on both sides of the SPD allow
for an installation on a 35 mm DIN rail, even under difficult
mounting conditions inside the distributor.
