Course Description<br />
DANC 4550 Dance Ethnography: Intellectualizing the Body's Motion 2CP 3 0 Surveys a wide range of theoretical approaches to the study of dance from an<br />
ethnological perspective: dance as a system of communication, social<br />
structure, ethnicity, and sacred art. Methodologies used are developed in the<br />
fields of symbolic anthropology, social, history, ethnochoreology,<br />
ethnomusicology, comparative religious, and performance studies. Gathering<br />
ethnographic material, ethical dynamics of fieldwork encounters, and duties of<br />
the dance ethnographer as a cultural mediator are explored.<br />
ENG 3310 Studies in Asian Literatures I: Beginnings to 1850 2CP 3 0 Introduces Asian Literatures from the beginnings to 1850, using selections<br />
from two or more regions of Asia, such as China, Japan, Korea, India, or<br />
Vietnam. The focus will be on examining cultures and histories as they<br />
shaped literary expression.<br />
ENG 3320 Studies in Asian Literatures II 2CP 3 0 Introduces Asian Literatures from 1850 to the present, using selections from<br />
