Course Description<br />
SWAH 2110 Intermediate Swahili 2CP 4 0 This the the first course of two-quarter intermediate-level sequence. Although<br />
this course will rely on the basic knowledge learned in the previous year, it is<br />
designed to take the learner deeper into Swahili structure and grammar as<br />
well as deepen their understanding and appreciation of Swahili culture. The<br />
reading passages will be longer, the written compositions longer, and the<br />
concepts more abstract. Promoting communicative competence is the main<br />
goal of this course. Students will be expected to develop their abilities in<br />
debating and expressing abstract ideas and concepts. Students wuill also<br />
beging working on group or individual projects that demostrate their<br />
understanding of East African cultural issues. Students will also be<br />
encouraged to make the connections or draw comparisons between East<br />
African and American culture. In addition, students will be expected to try to<br />
integrate their majors with what they are learning in class.<br />
SWAH 2120 Intermediate Swahili 2CP 4 0 This is a continuation of 2110. Second course of two-quarter intermediatelevel<br />
sequence. Although this course will rely on the knowledge gained in the<br />
fall quarter, it is designed to take the learner deeper into Swahili structure and<br />
gramma,r as well as provide a deeper understanding of Swahili and East<br />
African culture in general. The reading passages will be longer, the written<br />
compositions longer and more abstract. Students will be expected to develop<br />
their abilities in debating and expressing abstract ideas and concepts. A lot of<br />
emphasis will be placed on communicative skills and comprehension of<br />
Swahili material both written and oral.<br />
THAI 1110 Elementary Thai I 2CP 4 0 Culture based approach to increased language proficiency. Students continue<br />
to develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills as they study diverse<br />
history and customs of Thai speakers.<br />
THAI 1120 Elementary Thai II 2CP 4 0 Culture based approach to increased language proficiency. Students continue<br />
to develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills as they study diverse<br />
history and customs of Thai speakers.<br />
THAI 2110 Intermediate Thai I 2CP 4 0 Culture based approach to increased language proficiency. Students continue<br />
to develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills as they study diverse<br />

THAI 2120 Intermediate Thai II 2CP 4 0 Culture based approach to increased language proficiency. Students continue<br />

THAI 3110 Advanced Thai I 2CP 3 0 Culture based approach to increased language proficiency. Students continue<br />
to develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills as they study diverse<br />
