when the Athenians undertook the world's first democratic experiment.
Examines textual sources (literature, philosophy, history, speeches and public
documents) and archaeological sources (architecture, sculpture, painting) for
artistic problems, concerns, and achievements. Explores how the Athenians
dealt with those fundamental questions about life that face all thinking humans
in a democracy.
