Course Description<br />
1J 3 0 Considers the role of organizations in modern society. A wide range of social<br />
and legal issues will be addressed during class discussions and assignments,<br />
including: environmental impact, discrimination, consumerism, workplace<br />
safety, worker rights, and the impact of globalization. Students are expected to<br />
research and write about issues from various sides, analyzing ethical<br />
dilemmas and the relative merits of possible solutions.<br />
ML 3210J Writing in Two Languages 1J 3 0 Course designed for the English-speaking student with two or more years of<br />
French (or course-specific language) who would like to improve his or her<br />
English writing skills using a comparative language approach.<br />
ML 3270J Translation as Writing 1J 3 0 An introduction to the practice and theory of translation into English with<br />
special emphasis on translation as a form of writing/composition. Analysis and<br />
discussion of good writing and of the students' own translations and<br />
compositions.<br />
NRSE 3700J Writing for Nursing 1J 3 0 Provides technical written communications skills. Writing tasks provide<br />
students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for written<br />
communication in formats and subject areas common in nursing practice.<br />
PBIO 4180J Writing for the Science Researcher 1J 3 0 Current research and public controversy dealing with topics in biological<br />
research will provide students with opportunities to practice and master skills<br />
needed for successful written communication in the field. No credit toward<br />
major.<br />
PHIL 3010J Writing With Critical Reasoning Skills 1J 3 0 This is a writing intensive course whose topics for student essays will vary<br />
depending upon instructor.<br />
POLS 3050J Writing on Political Science Topics 1J 3 0 Writing course for political science majors. Focuses on studying and<br />
producing clear and persuasive writing about political issues.<br />
REC 3700J Writing for Recreation Studies 1J 3 0 Allows the student to practice the writing process while investigating current<br />
issues and trends in the recreation and leisure field.<br />
SOC 3560J Writing in Sociology & Anthropology 1J 3 0 Junior level composition course for Sociology and Anthropology majors and<br />
students in related fields. Combines writing instruction with consideration of<br />
substantive social science topics. Students try various styles of social science<br />
writing (book reviews; grant proposals; field notes; interviews; etc.).<br />
Prerequisites: (JR OR SR) & 13 HRS SOC/ANT<br />
MATH 1090 Consumer Mathematics 1M 3 0 Applications of elementary mathematics to day-to-day problems. Special<br />
emphasis on consumer topics such as compound interest, mortgages, and<br />
installment buying. Scientific calculator required. Does not apply to arts and<br />
sciences requirements. No credit to those with credit for course above MATH<br />
1200.<br />
